Case study

public sector / defence
- delivering value through agile adoption

Client Background

A significant and multi-national defence programme sought to modernise its approach to programme delivery to meet evolving strategic and commercial objectives. We were engaged to lead the adoption of Agile ways of working across the programme.

Approach

A high degree of emotional intelligence, resilience and stakeholder management was required to navigate the extremely complex and politically sensitive nature of the programme. By working with senior leaders, partners and customers, we identified the optimal approach for adoption and sought to roll-out operational, technology and data changes to support the implementation.

Key Outcomes

  • Root Cause Analyses for Programme Improvements: Detailed root cause analyses were used to identify underlying issues and inefficiencies, providing insights for programme improvements and Agile implementation strategies.

  • A Strategic Roadmap for Implementation & Change: A strategic roadmap for change was developed, outlining the sequence of initiatives and milestones required to achieve Agile transformation objectives.

  • Comprehensive Coaching and Training: Comprehensive coaching and training was provided from senior leaders to junior delivery teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Improved Programme Efficiency and Governance: Through the identification of operational and delivery Value Streams, the programme improved delivery of value and efficiency through streamlined processes, improved resource allocation, and faster decision-making cycles.

  • Cultural Shift towards Agility: Fostered a cultural shift towards agility with senior leaders and delivery teams, embracing Agile principles and practices, to drive innovation and delivery excellence.

Conclusion

The Agile implementation not only improved programme efficiency and alignment with strategic objectives but also fostered a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across the organisation. Through the identification and alignment to Value Streams, the programme was able to focus on delivering value quickly and incrementally.
